Embracing Colour
MY LOVE FOR BOLD INTERIOR DESIGN
As a designer, I am constantly inspired by the words of Dale Chihuly: "I never met a colour I didn't like." For me, these words perfectly capture my love of bold and colourful interior design.
One of the easiest ways to add colour to a room is through the use of accessories. From cushion and blankets to artwork and rugs, there are so many ways to introduce colour without committing to a large-scale change. For clients who love colour but are afraid to fully commit, I recommend starting with a neutral base and then layering on colourful accents to bring in a pop of personality and vibrancy.
The most fun, and often most striking way to embrace colour is through paint. While some may shy away from strong colours on walls, I believe that a bold paint choice can add depth and interest to any space. From jewel tones to pastels, there are endless colour options to choose from. If you're hesitant to fully commit to a bold colour, consider using it on a feature wall or painting a bookcase or a chest of drawers.
In addition to accessories and paint, textiles are another great way to incorporate colour into your space. From patterned bed linen to colourful upholstery, textiles can add a rich layer of depth and interest. Consider choosing a bold pattern in a complementary colour palette to your existing decor, or mix and match patterns and colours for a more eclectic and adventurous look.
Don't be afraid to mix and match colours. While it's important to have a cohesive colour story throughout your home, that doesn't mean you can't play with a variety of colours and hues. Experiment with colour combinations, such as pink and forest green or navy and mustard yellow, to find a look that speaks to your personal style.
The words of Dale Chihuly ring true for me: I truly have never met a colour I didn't like, well maybe brown, but I’m open to it! Whether you're starting small with colourful accessories or diving headfirst into bold wall colours, there are endless ways to incorporate colour into your home. So don’t be afraid, go ahead and embrace colour to create a space that truly reflects your unique personality and style.
